A 60-year-old retail worker remains in a critical condition after an alleged shop theft escalated into a serious assault in Sunshine, in Melbourne’s west.
Victoria Police said four teenagers were arrested after the incident at a shop on Hampshire Road on Saturday afternoon. The group comprised two boys aged 13 and 15 and two girls aged 14 and 15.
What police say happened
Investigators allege the four teenagers entered the shop shortly after 2pm and stole items. Police said two staff members confronted the group before a physical altercation broke out.
One of the employees, a 60-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in a critical condition. Authorities had not publicly detailed the precise nature of those injuries when the arrests were announced.
