Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of a man in his 20s who was found critically injured at a bus stop in Australind, in Western Australia’s South West.
Emergency services were called to the bus stop on The Boulevard, near the Treendale shopping precinct, at about 1:20am on Sunday. The man was unresponsive and suffering critical injuries when paramedics arrived.
He was taken to Bunbury Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Two men assisting police
Western Australia Police said two men, both aged in their 30s, were in custody and assisting detectives with their inquiries. Police had not announced charges at the time of the latest public update.
The circumstances leading to the man’s injuries remain under investigation. Authorities have not publicly identified the deceased, and no further details about the two men in custody have been released.
The Homicide Squad has taken carriage of the investigation, reflecting the seriousness of the death and the need to establish a clear sequence of events. Investigators will be seeking to determine how the man sustained his injuries and whether other people were present in the area before emergency services were contacted.
Large area cordoned off
Police established a substantial crime scene around The Boulevard on Sunday morning. The cordon covered part of the area beside the road, including a car park and two bus stops, while officers examined the scene.
Two damaged vehicles could be seen behind police tape in the car park of the nearby shopping complex. Police have not publicly said whether either vehicle was connected to the man’s death, and their presence at the scene should not be taken as confirmation of involvement.
Forensic examination of the area is expected to form an important part of the inquiry. Detectives may also review nearby security footage, speak with witnesses and examine movements around the precinct during the early hours of Sunday. Police have not yet released a detailed account of what they believe occurred.
Investigation centred on Australind
Australind is a growing community near Bunbury, about 158 kilometres south of Perth. The discovery of the injured man near a public transport stop prompted an immediate response from local police, paramedics and specialist detectives.
The investigation is focused on the period before the man was found at about 1:20am. Establishing his movements and any interactions in the vicinity will be central to reconstructing the events that led to his death.
