Homicide investigation launched after woman’s body found near Kalgoorlie-Boulder highway

Homicide detectives examine death near Kalgoorlie-Boulder highway

Western Australia Police have opened a homicide investigation after the body of a 35-year-old woman was found near a highway in the Goldfields city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder on Friday morning.

Police said officers were called just before 10am to an area near the intersection of Goldfields Highway and Roberts Road, about 600 kilometres east of Perth, after reports that a body had been located. St John WA attended, but the woman was declared dead at the scene.

The death has now been referred to homicide detectives, a step that signals investigators are treating the circumstances as suspicious while they work to establish how the woman died and what happened before emergency services arrived.

Man known to deceased assisting police

Authorities have said a 38-year-old man, who was known to the woman, is assisting police with their enquiries. No charge has been announced in relation to the death, and police have not publicly identified either the woman or the man.

The location of the discovery, close to a major road on the outskirts of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, is expected to remain central to the investigation as detectives reconstruct the woman’s movements and speak with people who may have travelled through the area on Friday morning.

Police are likely to examine a broad range of material, including witness accounts, CCTV from nearby roads or businesses, phone records, and any forensic evidence recovered from the scene. In regional centres, even small pieces of information from motorists, residents or workers can prove important in narrowing the time frame of an incident.

Appeal for public information

Police have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers. That appeal includes people who may have seen vehicles, pedestrians, or unusual activity near Goldfields Highway and Roberts Road before 10am on Friday, as well as anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area.

Investigators have not released further details about the woman’s injuries or the suspected cause of death. That information is commonly withheld in the early stages of a homicide probe to protect the integrity of witness statements and any future court proceedings.

The Goldfields region’s size and transport links can make early public assistance especially valuable. Goldfields Highway is a key route through Kalgoorlie-Boulder and connects local traffic, mine workers, freight movements and travellers passing through the region. Detectives will be seeking to identify who was nearby at the relevant time and whether anyone saw something that appeared out of place.

Community waits for answers

The death comes as police across Australia continue to emphasise the importance of reporting suspicious behaviour quickly, particularly where a person may be missing, injured or at risk. For families and communities, the first days of a homicide investigation are often marked by limited public detail as detectives balance the need for information with the need to preserve evidence.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder, one of Western Australia’s best-known regional centres, has a close-knit community despite its role as a major mining hub. A sudden death in a public or semi-public area can have a broad impact, particularly when investigators have not yet explained the circumstances.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a report online. Information can be provided anonymously. Police have asked members of the public not to speculate online and to provide any direct knowledge, footage or observations to investigators.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are expected to provide further updates when more information can be released.
