A child’s body has been recovered from the Parramatta River at Concord, hours after the body of a man was found in the water off Bayview Park.
NSW Police said the search began shortly before 11.45am on Saturday, 13 June 2026, after a man was found dead in waters off the park. Officers from Burwood Police Area Command were told the man had earlier been seen in a small boat with a child.
A command post was set up on the foreshore and police divers worked through the afternoon. About 5.30pm, they found the body of a young girl in the river.
The two people have not yet been formally identified. Police said information provided so far indicates the man was in his 40s and the girl was believed to be six or seven years old.
There was no neat ending at Bayview Park on Saturday night, only a stretch of river turned into a search ground and a mother being supported by police as detectives tried to piece together what happened.
Police have not released a cause of death and have not said whether the matter is being treated as suspicious. Inquiries are continuing.
Anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or through the NSW Crime Stoppers website. Police reminded the public not to send information through NSW Police social media pages.
