Home Invasion Horror: Elderly Cairns Couple Attacked, Three Denied Bail

CAIRNS – A quiet Sunday morning turned into a nightmare for an elderly couple in Woree yesterday as three men allegedly stormed their home, threatening them and violently assaulting the male resident.

Police reports indicate that two 32-year-old men and a 37-year-old man forced their way into a unit on Sandown Close around 7:30 AM on May 24. The intruders allegedly threatened a 65-year-old woman and a 62-year-old man before one of the assailants struck the male victim on the arm with a hammer.

The injured man later received treatment at Cairns Hospital for his injuries. Authorities moved swiftly, taking all three suspects into custody following the brutal incident.

Further allegations reveal that the 37-year-old man was reportedly involved in a separate assault earlier this year in March. The trio now faces serious charges, including one count each of enter dwelling with intent in company and assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed in company. The 37-year-old faces an additional charge of serious assault person over 60.

All three appeared before the Cairns Magistrates Court today, May 25, where they were denied bail. The court proceedings are expected to continue as the investigation unfolds, leaving the Woree community shaken by the brazen act of violence.
