Police Dismantle Sydney’s Notorious Coconut Cartel in Major Raids

Sydney, Australia – Police have struck a significant blow against one of Sydney’s most violent organised crime networks, executing a series of raids that authorities say have crippled the self-proclaimed “Coconut Cartel.”

Strike Force Helston, established to target the gang’s activities, carried out multiple operations across Sydney in recent days. Two men have already been charged in connection with the syndicate’s activities, with police alleging the group is responsible for a string of shootings, kidnappings, attempted murders and firebombings stretching back more than 18 months.

The Coconut Cartel has been locked in a brutal feud with the rival Alameddine crime network. The violence has included targeted shootings, abductions, and arson attacks that have put the public at risk and led to repeated warnings from police about escalating underworld conflict spilling onto Sydney streets.

One of the cartel’s key figures, boss Lorenzo Lemalu, was assassinated in Vietnam earlier this year. The execution heightened fears of retaliatory violence in Australia and prompted authorities to increase monitoring of the gang’s remaining members.

Police say the latest raids are aimed at dismantling the network’s leadership and disrupting its capacity to carry out further violence. Officers have seized weapons, drugs, cash and communications equipment believed linked to the cartel’s operations.

The gang earned its name from the Pacific Island heritage of several of its members. Its criminal activities have included drug trafficking, extortion and contract violence carried out on behalf of the group’s leadership.

Authorities have urged anyone with information about the Coconut Cartel or the broader Sydney underworld conflict to come forward. Strike Force Helston remains active and further arrests are expected.

The operation follows months of targeted intelligence gathering and surveillance. Police have described the Coconut Cartel as one of the most significant organised crime threats currently operating in New South Wales.

Community safety remains a priority for investigators, who are working to reassure Sydney residents that the raids have significantly weakened the gang’s ability to operate.

Further updates are expected as Strike Force Helston continues its investigation.
