Homicide Investigation Underway After Woman Found Dead Near Kalgoorlie Highway

Homicide investigation underway in WA Goldfields

Homicide detectives are investigating after a 35-year-old woman was found dead near a highway in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, in Western Australia’s Goldfields region.

Police were called shortly before 10am on Friday after the woman’s body was located near the intersection of Goldfields Highway and Roberts Road, close to the Mount Charlotte mine site. Emergency services attended, but the woman was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities have said a 38-year-old man who was known to the woman is assisting investigators. Police have not said he has been arrested, and have not publicly identified him as a suspect. The woman has also not been named by police.

Police appeal for dashcam and CCTV

Investigators are urging anyone who was in the area around Williamstown Road, Roberts Street and Goldfields Highway on Friday morning to come forward, particularly people with dashcam or CCTV footage.

The location is a busy corridor through Kalgoorlie-Boulder, a regional city about 600 kilometres east of Perth. Police are trying to establish how the woman came to be near the roadside and what happened before emergency services were called.

WA Police have described the inquiry as a homicide investigation, meaning specialist detectives are treating the death as suspicious while the circumstances are examined. No cause of death has been released.

Man assisting investigators

The involvement of a man known to the deceased woman is a key part of the early investigation, but police have released only limited details. At this stage, the public information is that the 38-year-old is assisting officers with inquiries.

In Australian policing language, a person assisting investigators may be a witness, a person with relevant background knowledge, or someone whose movements are being checked as part of a broader inquiry. It does not, by itself, mean a charge has been laid.

Detectives are expected to examine the woman’s final movements, any available footage from nearby roads or businesses, phone records where relevant, and forensic evidence from the scene. The roadside location may make public assistance especially important if vehicles passed through the area before police arrived.

Regional community asked to help

Kalgoorlie-Boulder is one of WA’s best-known mining centres, and major roads around the city carry local traffic, mine workers, freight vehicles and travellers moving through the Goldfields. Police appeals in regional areas often rely on motorists who may have driven through without realising their camera systems captured useful evidence.

Anyone who saw a person, vehicle or unusual activity near Goldfields Highway, Roberts Street or Williamstown Road on Friday morning is being asked to contact Crime Stoppers. Even minor details may help investigators build a timeline.

The woman’s death remains under investigation and police have not released further information about possible charges. As the inquiry continues, authorities are asking the public not to speculate and to provide any relevant information directly to investigators.

What happens next

Detectives will continue gathering statements, reviewing footage and awaiting forensic findings. A report will also be prepared for the coroner, who may examine the circumstances of the woman’s death once the police investigation has progressed.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online. Information can be provided anonymously.
